Antenna Range Extenders for the Phantom 4

My Phantom 4 returned home after about 2 1/2 blocks (1500 ft?) with clear line of sight. Has anyone tried these range extenders and do they work? I bought the P4 because I was told it could get 3 miles! NOT EVEN CLOSE (maybe they meant 3 blocks). My guess would be that range extenders would not help but ...
