I thought I would start this thread for users to discuss the changes and personal experiences when using the new firmware. Hopefully it does not turn into a bunch of "My Quad" crashed posts, but more of things that new users need to know. Plus old users might need to know if they are recently upgrading to avoid the crashes.
I'm new and have only experienced 3.0.4. which was ok, except that I happen to live in a higher magnetic declination area 15.3+. I started out learning to fly and dealing with J-Hook and TBE from the get go. I started with a prebuilt with most of the goodies already added, so I'm not going to claim I know jack about hooking up gimbal, iosd mini, transmitter, fpv, or soldering things.
#1 Since upgrading to the new firmware I immediately noticed J-Hook and TBE are non existent.
#2 I have noticed that GoHome initiates for the most part at 20% battery 10.8-9 volts (based on iosd)
#3 I have noticed when I flip the S-1 off and back on GPS I can over ride the GoHome and press my luck some. But most of the time I make sure I within about 200-300 feet from home with no trees, water or buildings when doing so.
#4 When I do press my luck and fly some more. I've noticed the iosd displays 10.6-7 auto land begins. On the old version I could fight off the descent with full throttle, allowing me to get near to catch land. (I've only landed on skids once, after seeing all the posts about guys tipping them over on landings.)
#4A When I do press my luck now and it goes into auto descent it comes down and no matter how hard I push up on throttle it still descends. Luckily I was close enough to catch and keeping it from bouncing)EDIT- I have tested numerous times and I was wrong when I wrote this. I can fight off descent and actually climb a little bit.
#5 I have yet to force a GoHome by extending range to maximum making the P2 decide it needs to return {New and improved smart P2}. Normally max range I go is about 600 meters before I get worried and return. On a side note I did initiate a GoHome about 500 Meters out not factoring in the head wind and it seemed like forever to get back. My recommendation on this would be throw it into ATTI mode and bring it home. The tilt is clearly increased by about 5-10 degrees and the P2 flies a hell of a lot faster. Obviously you need FPV if you do not have line of sight. GPS flight is definitely slower than what I experienced in 3.0.4., but not as drastic as people say about it compared to 1.8.
I encourage others to chime in with quirks, changes and remedies you have used to solve them. Like my boss says "Don't come to me with a problem, unless you have an answer to fix it"
