My ceiling is 10m/s which I suppose is 22mph. I do check the gust speed though too. I also check UAV forecast at 0m, 50m, 120m to make sure it's all at the right level. Haven't had any problems yet, apart from props and arms showing in the video sometimes!

I always check at 50 meters, that's my RTH height. This way if it's a bit to much at higher altitude I can always get back down to 50 meters.
No point in checking ground level, except for maybe the comfort of myself if it's cold out.

I check ground level because it saves me getting off my @$$
