I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of personal preference. If you leave it you won't lose it in case you decide to go back to it later. But if you leave it you will have to to make sure the wires are fixed so they can't move around and touch any electronics inside.

Also if removed, you'll have a hole there unless you have or make a plug.

Here are two links I had saved.

Did mine the other day, got to 1000m in an suburban type area before loss of signal on the first test. And yesterday, second test got to 1300m in a lite industrial type area. Turned around when I started going over some homes, and video starting to get weak.

If your talking the blue outside cables, yes. But they were a tight fit, and it depends on where your drilling your holes.They are very stiff cables, can't be bent at a tight bend. So you might want one size up.
