Waypoint.

Waypoints are best when you can plan them well in advance. Apps like Litchi can do it. You sit at home and plan flight route looking at the maps. Plan how would aircraft fly, where will camera face and what will be flying route etc. all this is done by placing waypoints on map and set parameters at each. Once all done, go to the sight and load the mission (collection of waypoints) to the aircraft and command it to fly. Aircraft follows the predetermined route and comes back to last waypoint and waits for the next instruction.

It's good for smooth video shooting and good for areas where one can't reach easily like behind a building, out of sight....

You can also use DJI Go to fly waypoints using the waypoint intelligent flight mode. The difference is you have to fly the Phantom to each location to place a waypoint and continue to do this for all waypoint locations you want included in your flight plan. Once you have all waypoints recorded you can save it and the Phantom will fly the waypoint route and you can choose to control the gimbal, etc. as the flight is flown. Other apps like Litchi are more advanced for waypoint missions, but you can do it in DJI Go as well.

I always use the computer, can't do it on the ipad.

The instructions for flying waypoints with DJI Go are in the manual. With Litchi, the advantages are that you don't have to fly them first AND if you fly out of range of your controller, the bird will continue the waypoint mission as planned.
