Hello,

I joined these forums years ago when I purchased my DJI Phantom 4 Pro and although I’ve used it occasionally, it’s done far more sitting than flying ever since purchasing it in 2017. It did come in handy last year here in Florida after we got hit with the hurricanes as I used it to see what was going on in the neighborhood, mostly looking for power company trucks to see when we would get our service restored. I am an outdoorsman and have always wanted a thermal drone and just got one ordered.

My question for the group here revolves around the value of this DJI drone. I seem to recall reading here sometime back that drones like this that have never had any software revisions downloaded were desirable. I am almost certain that my drone has never seen a software update. Just wondering what the market value of this would be to see if it’s worth selling it. I do not want to break any forum rules so this is not a thinly veiled sales ad, but an attempt to gather information. If I decided to sell it, I would go through proper channels. This is the kit as it came from DJI and the drone has never been crashed and actually has always been treated like a Faberge egg. It is in top condition. Includes the controller, charger, spare propellers, and everything else that a brand new one came with. Includes only the one battery that these were shipping with originally. Speaking of the battery, when I brought this thing out of retirement last year during the hurricanes and charged the battery everything was fine and the flight times seemed to be in line with what would be expected from the battery when it was new. This is also the black edition or whatever they called the dark gray version.

I appreciate any information. Thank you.

Welcome back.from 2020. :)
I doubt you are doing anything wrong via as a selling add. 👌
To post on classifieds there is some requirements, amount of posts, etc.
To avoid somebody signing up to just post a classified add.

If the unit fly's with no problems. 👍👍
Let the buyer take the risk of frying it with firmware, etc.
If another member disagrees with my post, they will :)👍👌

Value, I'm sure others will help you out. 👌

Yes, welcome back. Firmware has always been puzzeling to me. Some like it, others don't. Some are good, some bad. Guess you won't have to worry since no firmware is available for the P4P v1 now. There might be a place, but not from DJI.
Now go fly that thing!! :)

There's probably no extra value in having the original firmware since it can be upgraded/downgraded using the DJI Assistant 2 application.

Thank you all for your input.

Once my new thermal drone arrives, I’m going to see what its flight characteristics and user interface are like in comparison to this DJI that we are discussing. I have no financial necessity to sell the DJI and the reason for considering letting it go is based upon my ongoing desire to get rid of things I no longer use and free up storage in the home. This new drone has both thermal and traditional cameras, but is smaller than the DJI which I suspect may be more stable in higher winds, etc. I suppose I’ll do a side-by-side comparison and then decide if the DJI would ever fill a role that couldn’t be handled by the new drone.

Now that we’ve established that there is no premium to the value of the DJI based upon it firmware status, could someone give me an idea of what I could expect to get for it if put up for sale? Thanks again for all the help.

The latest firmware for P4P was in 2018 and works just fine. Let new owner update if they want, but its not needed. As far as value that varies upon need but additional batteries hold much value when selling. Many sellers think this model is gold and ask ridiculous prices but reasonable would be in the $500 + range w/1 battery and each additional battery adds another $50. Shipping negotiable. (That's what I'll be asking for a couple of my P4Ps shortly)
Good luck with your new thermal model, let us know how it works out. Enjoy

Check eBay for recently sold Phantoms that include accessories similar to yours. That should give you a good idea of what people are actually willing to pay right now.
