Seller on eBay claims he put copper shielding on his phantom to "improve reception" but claims a loose compass wire is why he gets no gps. Hmmmm:

If you put copper shielding on the outside of the phantom like that, you're actually blocking the gps signal. If you look on the inside of the phantom, the gps is mounted on top of the shell, and it has copper shielding under the gps to help block any signals from the wifi and such located underneath it so it doesn't interfere with the gps signals. Or at least that's how I think it works. (still a newb with how it all works but I'm working on it.)

That's the mod if you want to fly anywhere without restrictions. You'll be in permanent ATTI Mode though...
