The end of Litchi ?

Wow- it’s more Of a circus over there than around here.

As far as what is being suggested- that DJI will be modifying their AC to preclude use of third party software?

Perhaps they are. It’s unlikely to be to comply with a new law though, at least not one to be introduced by year end. Legislative changes take time and process usually provides that the intended changes are in the public domain prior to implementation.

It’s more likely DJI might be trying to ensure their ongoing survival in an effort to appear proactive and impress regulators in further product enhancements that suggest a higher level of safety. To the extent the changes are implemented they are no different to geo-fencing and aeroscope. Control and monitoring from the manufacturer.

There are so many third party apps, not just litchi, so I don’t see this happening.

I considered buying it, but after I learned that they are not supporting adjustable AEB anymore, it's a no-go for me.

Given VC Technology LTD (Litchi) is a UK based business, DroneDeploy is a US organization and DJI is well you know Chinese, I'd be inclined to think that any reasonable person/group/legislative unit would have a bit more trust and faith in the UK/US organizations. At the very least the UK/US organizations would be much easier to regulate, Chinese Co. not so much. In order for DJI to get ahead of any regulations which could impact sales they need to work with VC Technology LTD and DroneDeploy as a sole 3rd party flight control apps. Given the US military has already blackballed DJI products it would seem they need to enable their products to run solely on these 3rd party apps, and limit any feed back on product performance etc. to data being submitted by the apps, and not automatically transferred to DJI servers in any way.

The point you may have missed is that no third party app has any level of privellege to access the flight controller or any parameter (max altitude, geofence override etc) directly. Permitted control of any function is limited by the access to parameters provided to third party developers by the DJI SDK. The third party apps are essentially limited to doing what you might manually do through the controller inputs or DJI GO. To protect their market DJI needs to work directly with the regulators in all jurisdictions- something they are obviously doing. GEO fencing and aeroscope are to very obvious examples of the efforts here.

The OP on that thread was not remotely credible.

I felt the same way.

Agree completely. In fact, the SDK was updated to work with and released within a day of the release of the M2 completely eviscerating the OP's credibility and knowledge of what he was posting.

His whole premise that it needed done to comply with some future, yet unknown law, is laughable really.

Litchi will not open since Pie on Android.

That's not DJI problem ... that's 3rd party Android operating systems and Litchi not compatible.

You have to remember that Android was allowed to be updated / modified by 3rd partys as long as it complied with the core requirements. Trouble is many apps such as Litchi require more than just core requirements to be as per official Android ... with 3rd party Androids being not quite same - we get problems such as this.

Official Google Android is still at level 6 ... that gives you an idea of how far 3rd partys have moved on ...

The 3rd party apps are not compatible because DJI's SDK is not fully compatible with PIE. It is a DJI / Android problem and third parties cannot do anything about it until DJI is able to make the SDK compatible. Which they will eventually.

There have been instances with GO having issues with PIE as well. Nothing new really. It happens.

It was explained to you that this is incorrect last time you mentioned it.
It's still not true.

Litchi explains the issue with Android 9 thus:
Known issue Android 9 Pie is not yet supported due to a crash in DJI's SDK code which needs to be fixed by DJI.

Further, on Drone Deploy they have a big banner stating:

"Hi DroneDeploy Community,

Android Pie is not compatible with the DJI SDK at this time, which means it is not currently supported by DroneDeploy. Please do not upgrade to Android Pie just yet if you wish to continue using DroneDeploy"
