Just ordered a P4P after flying a P2 w/Gopro for 2 years. I've read a lot about issues with different drones, so I was just wondering what tests I might do to make sure that I got a good one. Any other advice would be appreciated. I am aware of the need to update firmware, compass calibration, RTH height. The DJI Go App will be a new experience.

Thanks in advance

In my experience, DJI stuff is great when it works, but it doesn't always work first try. And sometimes you just have to accept a workaround (say a mode doesn't work until the next Firmware update) when stuff doesn't work. But search these forums and youtube and most problems can be solved.

1. Before you do flight tests, read, read, read. At least read the info that is out there so you know how things should work.
2. If your aircraft works, then WAIT to install firmware updates until others have tried it and given it the ok.
3. Then just fly all you can

Have fun!

Make sure the battery clips-in snug and not too much jiggle. There are inconsistencies in the battery compartments. An easy firmware update out of the box via iPad and controller is a good sign. Test your focus and manual and auto focus assistants make sure all works well. Not a bad idea to monitor each battery that you received with it for a few minutes and make sure that cells stay close to balanced and no jumps in current. If they are not stable, return them. There's an issue with the current firmware update and Litchi and Autopilot apps, so if you use them, don't update. Read the manual. Read it again. If anything doesn't work as described, return it. It took me three tries to get one that SEEMS problem free. Congratulations and good luck!

You don't need to calibrate the compass.
Read the top of p57 in the manual and leave the compass alone.

Yeah, just check the values every now and then and make sure they're not drastically wrong :)
