Terrible signal performance

Just a final update from me, got it back last week with the controller swapped out and everything works as it should. I actually got my longest fight ever out of my back yard at about 900 meters. My best guess is when doing the firmware upgrade there is a tendency to glitch and the controller never gets the complete update, so even though everything says it's fine you end up with an RC and Drone that are not syncing right and because you can't just go ahead and update the firmware on JUST the controller any more you end up in our situation. Even down grading it etc doesn't help because the software "thinks" the firmware took or whatever. It would be nice if dji just gave us access to the file directory so that we could replace files manually if needed instead of running an update that just sits there and beeps at you for a half hour. (Esp over wifi which is not always 100% dependable). But then again the files loaded on these thing are probably full of proprietary algorithms that make the phantom fly as good as it does (when functioning properly!)

I get mine back tomorrow .What you are saying could be right .I have my original controller with the DBS mod here I sent The P3 with a second stock one I bought.I could only get 15m with ever one I tried .So now maybe I can't use the boosted one ?
Did they give you any description of the repairs carried out or any explanation at all ?

Well, yours is one of the worst stories.

To others that see this...

My P2V+, was defective from day one, had to send it in.

My P3S I bought to look for my my missing P2V+, was fine until I did a firmware update, had to send it in.
They sent back a different bird and different remote. No paper work.

My P3S didn't make it back on a RTH, battery went dead, fell from the sky. sent it in.
They sent back same remote and bird, fixed.

New firmware came available, and the first option to downgrade. I updated the firmware, signal problems were back and now the down grade option was still there, but no firmware to down grade too. Well it was there was 30 mins ago.
Had to send it in for repair, got back different remote, same bird and changed stuff inside. I'm sure the top shell was new also.
Terrible signal performance

Four times sent the product in for repair, one was for a crash.

The summery, mine at least came back working.

Yours, @DryFlyRy, 3 months of summer and a trip, and a unusable $500+ product.

Finally have my standard back covered in dirty marks ,stickers half off and the top DJI sticker looks almost worn off , Same A/C same remote . Is there anyway to find out what they fixed ?
Looks like it's been to Mongolia and back on an small horse in a saddle bag .My near new P3S looks like a weary traveler now .Will it work ? I'll try tomorrow .Overall a thoroughly underwhelming experience .

If your asking me a have not gone backwards on apps. If you had a connection problem between the remote and the mobile that would be different. Your poor connection is the transmission from the remote to the bird.

I don't thing a mobile device or software setup is going to fix, how they fixed mine.

I Just Noticed your Paper work....They Changed out a 900M Main Board... and a 5.8 RC unit....????

Yep.... But on an Early Flight, Flying down from 400 ft back to home, I let the Throttle Latch into Descend...I was doing about 30mph, and got disorientated between the screen and Eye sight...Flying Lichi....It Plowed into the Ground... then a Cow Kicked it...New Body... Good as New ....Didn't send it In... For Pilot Error... Still had Range out 1/2-1 mile ... Then Noticed the tell tail Motor Mount Cracks.... Ordered and Changed New Body, with CNC Motor Mount Plates...
Then Noticed RTH and 100ft Distance....all the Warnings...LOS...RC Sig. Loss.... and it Being Intermittent... If Flying in windy Conditions....
So Started Looking at Log Files, with Word Pad... and got the distinct Impression, that one of the Up Dates installed automatic update for FW... after a timeout to wait for User to Up date...so rolled software back to 1.5.7 .. Haven't Flown Because of Wind and Smoke in Northern Nevada...
While Looking at Phantom 3 Standard Mother Boards, on Ebay... A Close up Group of Clear Pictures....
Shows the 5.8 Radio Board Sitting Over an OPEN Hole in the Board... with 2 of the Board Mounting Points Near By... The 5.8 Board is Only Mounted by PADS, at Each End, being Soldered to Little Pads....
IS THE METAL ENCASED RADIO BOARD and FLEXING OF THE ES MU BOARD... FRACTURING THE CONTACT PAD JOINTS ???
Causing Intermittent Drop Out, and Signal Strength Jumping all Over the Place???
The Torque From the 4 Motors and Props, Through the Body and Main Board.... with the Radio ONLY Lightly attached By the Contact Pads.... Might Be a Point...
My NEW... Main Board... Just Showed Up... So Time to Get to Installing... and Looking for Micro-Fractures, and Cold solider Joints, at the 5.8 Radio Mounting Pads...

Been Flying RC Planes since 1971, with Kraft Escapements...still Flying Futaba FM...middle of Nevada... Started working on Puters with TI vic-20...

WELL.... Put the New Board in and Powered up... I was Using DJI GO 3.1.4 on My Samsung S5...
The New Board Showed a FW ver of 1.3.50+ ...After Reading the Posts" Best Range Ever", I wanted to Roll Back to DJI Go 2.8.2 and FW 1.5.07 .... So I Wiped Go 3.1.4 off My Phone and had Found Papa Tai Google Drive... It Now wants to Update and i'm Stuck... I pulled the Log and Looks Like I have a History of all of DJI's Software Changes, why, and Maybe what they changed in the Modules... To Effect Range and Power Outputs on the Radio's... Just as My Brain starts to Grasp, what they are doing and maybe a work around, I get a Brain Fart and Loose it...from Over Load...Just turned 65 saturday... so I'll Blame that... Here is a Part of that Log... Look at the FW ver numbers... Is this Moving Backwards, Locking up the old versions??

I have only had it a couple months. Ordered it April 8th from Amazon to be exact. Worked beautifully at first. I had a rough landing a few flights before I noticed the issue (tipped it over in the middle of a road). The first flight right after the hard landing I didn't noticed any issues but at the same time it was a way point mission using autopilot so maybe I just didn't noticed, but the way points were a pretty good distance and it should have RTH in the middle of the mission if the signal dropped. Then some time passed and I was showing it to my buddy in the back yard. That's when I noticed the signal issue started. That was about 2-3 weeks ago. As far as firmware I cannot remember at what point I updated. And I think the firmware log is all screwed up because I kept deleting it while trying to down grade and I have a bunch of 2014 dates on it and it just confuses the crap out of me. I am very temped to get a set of screw drivers to open up the bird and see if I have a lose connection as pictures in some of those links you posted here. Have you done that with yours?

Over a year later with people having this issue. I am having it myself with the latest firmware on my P3S. Is there still just no fix for this short range signal loss?
