If I just fly this and don't connect it to the internet, then how will DJI restrict me!?

I am reading news articles and getting quite annoyed. But this seems like a scare tactic by DJI as they cannot enforce it if your drone isnt connected to any form of internet can they?

It's not a scare tactic from DJI.
It's a scare tactic from people that don't check details before they start ranting.
DJI don't want to restrict you and if they did you'd know all about it because the forum would be full of nothing else.

I'm curious where this "fake news" came from, the DJI announcement before the release of the new versions was a little ambiguous, but it was still a big reach to get to the conclusion that there was some huge conspiracy to turn your Phantom into a paperweight.

Yeah fair enough. I just googled dji phantom firware or along those lines in google news and it is full of this stuff!

I obviously think worse case as i am a brand new phantom owner.

The one thing I have always disliked about social media is that people can be such jerks they find it so easy to talk down to people, I have always made a habit of not saying something in print that I wouldn't say to their face.
