Putting a Phantom back together....

Hello all.

I bought a Phantom 2 with Lightbridge setup a few months ago, and just upgraded to the P3. I figured a lightbridge would have higher value sold on its own (for people with the S900 or whatever that still might use it) since anyone with a P2 should be upgrading to a P3, so I took it apart.

Now I'm trying to understand how to rebuild the P2 so it will work without Lightbridge.

I have a 2.4G receiver inside the phantom, no controller (I was using a Futaba 8FG but will be selling that too), no screen.

It looks like I can purchase a 2.4G Phantom 2 controller for like $100, but then all the FPV screens I see are 5.8G. Will I be able to have a 2.4G receiver, transmitter (controller) and 5.8G FPV screen?

Or do I need to find a 5.8G receiver and controller if I want to use an FPV screen?

Yes , it is actually preferable when using non DJI video tx to have them at different frequencies so they don't interfere with each other.

I'm a little bit unfamiliar with the lingo, which part is the "video tx"?

Is that the screen?

and thats really interesting because I always thought people wanted them all on the same frequencies.

Sorry for that. Making assumptions that everyone is in the know is a thing I hate myself as well. Tx is usually referring to transmitter and Rx is usually referring to receiver. The Radio controller is Tx because it transmits and the receiver on the aircraft is Rx because it receives. Where as the video transmitter on the aircraft is a Video Tx because it transmits to the Rx Video receiver on the ground station.

We usually try to keep the signal for controlling the aircraft a different frequency to the signal that transmits the video stream. The flight control Radios are mostly 2.4ghz so the last thing you want to use is a 2.4ghz video transmitter on your aircraft where it might cause it to go out of control, or you lose video. From what I understand DJIs Light-bridge uses 2.4ghz for both but from what I understand they use a range of 2.4 at the furthest ends of that frequency range spectrum, so is different enough not to interfere with each function. Someone else can advise more how this works if you need to know it.

On most of our Ph2 and other copters (10 rigs) we use either TS8320 or TS58500 5.8ghz transmitters and this works pretty well and doesn't interfere with the 2.4ghz Radio flight controllers.
