Hi All,

I have a brand new Pro 4 and have been testing it out. I have made all the appropriate updates etc and have the RTH altitude set at 40m. It flies out but then when RTH button is pressed it won't ascend to the 40m but instead returns at the height it is at. If I hadn't taken over the controls, I'm afraid it would have crashed into the trees it was heading towards. Has anyone experienced such a problem or anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be? :)

Check out your TXT flight log to see if it explains what happened. You can upload and view it online here. If you'd like other people to review and comment on your flight log, then please post a link back here after you upload it.

What was the height shown in your DJI Go 4 app prior to triggering RTH?

Sorry, I am very new to all of this and technically challenged! I have followed the instructions on how to load my flight record but Im not sure I have done it correctly as when I open the file it is all goobilygock!? Did it come out ok in the uploaded file? Good Day, sorry, but Im unsure of what the height was to be exact but I'm guessing it was about 15m. Thank you :)

How far from home point are you when activating RTH?

It acts differently when within 20 meters of HP.

That log is for sure the wrong one. 30 sec long and zero distance

To save others doing it, here's the output from uploading the flight record above.

There's a low satellite count... What is your maximum height set to in the DJI Go app?
I

I had my maximum flight altitude set at 500m. Thanks

Wow, that is an unusual log. Low sat count, and no home point recorded before lifting off. Then either a flight straight up, or not enough GPS to record any distance.
HP recorded at the end of the log? Is this the correct log?

Logs are interesting. You didn't wait for the home point to be set. Number of satellites seen are so few. Also you have set height limit as 20 feet and not 20 meters.

I'm I missing something? I don't see a RTH initiated. Also, there is 30 seconds of a flight log showing that just altitude if gained, there is no distance from the home point. Basically, just pop up, hover and land. This isa according to the flight log.

I'm so sorry everyone, I really have no idea just how much there is to learn about these drones. I understand and can see that I have sent the wrong file. I will now upload the correct one and I apologise for waisting your time with the incorrect one. I am beginning to understand just how much I need to research & learn. Thank you for your time.

Thank you. I have so much to learn about this amazing machine! What I need to do is get it away from those trees and river and go out into a paddock where there are no obstacles then I'll be able to see clearly exactly what is going on. It is most likely to be operator error, I'm sure! Thank you all so much for your time - I really appreciate your help. Just one more question, how are you uploading my flight record file to the viewer?

Logs are invaluable. Eye-witness accounts are often unreliable.
Not to mention the distraction(s) when your trying to focus on control of your expensive toy.

I'm glad the cause was so easily found and you now know why it happened. But with the other shorter flight log that you posted first, that is something you will also need to be careful about as it seems that the nearby trees were blocking satellites for GPS and so your home point seemingly wasn't recorded before you took off. I know that that flight was just more or less straight up and down, so it didn't matter too much on that occasion. Strange though that the HP wasn't recorded until you had come back down, even though your satellite count had improved when you were up higher.

It probably is a good idea to move away from the trees a bit before flying because if you go too low behind the trees, you may lose signal and RTH will kick in. Also make sure you get the 'HP recorded - check it on the map' message before you fly off for a flight.
