If this is the old Army base near I-10 and and Riggs, be careful as it is owned by the Indians now and is active. No services but it is active. I looked into the place a year ago when I want to visit there. You need permission from the Indian Council.Welcome Gary
Looks like you have flown allot of places I have also. A friend of mine and I did Fountain Hills a few times. someone said it's posted that you can't fly there any more I'm not sure. You need to go south of Chandler and fly over the Gila Bend memorial airport. It's closed down now
Are we talking about the same airstrip? 34AZ - Chandler [Gila River Memorial Airport], AZ, US - Airport - Great Circle MapperThe Phoenix VFR terminal chart shows it as abandoned but used as a visual reference.

Oh I've talked to Indian police. as an airport it's safe to fly. Just that it's on tribal ground, You need a member with you or as you said permission ( buy you way in) That is what the Gila Indian police told me and a few friends as he helped us off the ground (different location). They had been easing up on this. I'm thinking they don't want any bad PR for the casino's .As long as your not destroying anything most of the time your ok.If this is the old Army base near I-10 and and Riggs, be careful as it is owned by the Indians now and is active. Oh LuvmyTj it's always been part of the Indian reservation. Funny how the Government can give and then take away and then give it back.....If this is the old Army base near I-10 and and Riggs, be careful as it is owned by the Indians now and is active. Yes, the history is interesting. If you figure it like you are all the land in the USA was once the indians. It has been in the white mans possession from 1912 to 2007 when the Gila River Indian Community took it over. Built in 1942 as an Army airfield then after the war an Air Force auxiliary airfield then in the 60's it became Goodyear civilian airport, then Memorial airfield. Once it became under the control of the indians it was renamed Gila River Memorial Airport. Unfortunately all the plans for it never materialized. There is another good YT video where a guy rides in on an on/off road bike.Oh LuvmyTj it's always been part of the Indian reservation. Neat history of the airport. If you look it up. Oh we never set foot on th Reservation , flow from about 1 mile away. I'm not sure on the ruling but I think were good as long as you don't land.

I always wanted to check out Pinal Airpark too (Marana,AZ), another old WWII Army airbase turned boneyard/storage airport. There are probably over 100 aircraft sitting there. I guess they are giving tours now. I will look into going on a tour in a couple months.
Can't help you there I'm at the other end of the valley. as we call it. You can check out Wickenburg. there is and old railroad bridge that is still in use Ive been wanting to fly around.I'm heading down to Phoenix for the weekend and was trying to figure out some good places to fly. I figured it would be easy with all of the wild open space in AZ but looking at things online and it's a patch work of restrictions and not a lot of information. Any suggestions for places in the Happy Valley area would be appreciated.
There's the Little San Domingo area about 3 miles North of Morristown, AZ on Castle Hot Springs Road. Wide open area, lots of foot hills.
