My wife bought a Phantom 3 Standard at a garage sale. It came with one battery that won't charge, doesn't have the cable to connect to my Iphone 16 pro. I bought 2 new batteries and charged one up and tried to fly. I tried to use the S2 switch to link to my phone and then tried the wifi. No joy with that either. I'm sure there is a place to update the firmware but haven't found it. Both the drone and controller turn on.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!

DO NOT mess with the firmware at this time.

Quick question, just turn the remote on.
Any mobile device will pickup the WiFi signal from the remote, the SSID can be changed, but you should see something.
Your mobile device will see it but won't be able to connect yet.
On the P3S the mobile devices do not use a cord, only WiFi.

There are different P3S models, like P3SE.
I will send you a few other links soon.

Welcome to the Forum.

As stated earlier, do NOT mess with a firmware update at this time.

Sometimes it takes a few tries to get the bird and r/c to link.

Check out msingers' site 'Phantomhelp.com' for everything Phantom. Just be sure to select the correct drone model from the drop-down menu. From there, you can reference and download the Phantom 3 Standard Manual.

The linking procedure below is from the manual:

I'm tagging along to seek answers also because a year ago I bought a Phantom 3 Standard, and haven't yet been able to link it with its own controller, or indeed with any other controller, since I do have a few spare P3S controllers lying about

I see the wifi ssid, but it needs a password. Is there a way to change it?

HI, that is a nice powerful quad, the P3s is my favorite to fly high and far with a range extender. II had a dead battery gave up and just put it on and off the charger and at times left on all night. It eventually held a charge have used it for years now.

I would download the free DJI go app to your phone. Power the controller then the P3s. If DJI go doesn't bring up the model automatically go into your phones WIFI settings. Look for a SSID called Phantom something. Select that and you should connect. Sometimes your phone will select a nearby router instead of the P3 signal. Remember if not used regularly the P3s can become hard to connect to the controller you may need to follow up with a reconnection procedure its simple. Remember to take your props off when experimenting so you don't damage anything.

The P3s is heavy 1200+ grams as I recall. Any drone over around 250g the FAA wants you to have a Remote ID (RID) around $60 and a license to legally fly ($5). Last weekend the state police did check me out so good to have things in order.

@Candoman62,

I spaced out or something remembered when I got in bed.

I throw those links at you pretty soon.

Seeing the SSID is step one!
BTW what was the name, that will tell me if somebody changed it.

What is the link status on the bird, when the remote is on?

You don't need the app to link.

This is where @captainmilehigh got the info.

Ive never tried but I dont think the P3s SSID is changeable. If you turn on controller then P3s you will should see the Phantom name come up in your list of SSIDs. I have 2 P3s when they have trouble occasionally but I've been able to get the problems solved on up in the air with minimal difficulty, When its flying time my P4 and Mavic just set, I go for the powerful P3s with my range extending reflector.

I named the drone "CandoPhantom3" but didn't post it here. The wifi name is PHANTOM3_431dfb. Can you send your time zone so we can have live conversations?

@Candoman62.
I think somebody changed it I can check on my remote.
That is really not important whats the status on the bird, that is what is important now.

@Sixseas, why are you complicating this thread?
Do you have anything to help the op?

That's what I'm trying to do.

You can change the SSID: and the password in the app, prove me wrong and I will admit I'm wrong.
You have two, try it

My P3S was working in the tree, untill it shook it of.

I have my Part 107 license and a Holy stone Remote Broadcaster.

Live conservation doesn't help anybody else, there will be others that know a lot will pitch in.
That's how this forum works the best.

I still have no answer of the link light on the bird.
That's is all I'm asking now. :) 👌

I have a new firmware is needed update should I apply now?
No. Absolutely not. My P3S's have been asking to update the firmware since 2016......and both fly flawlessly.

Firmware updates are notorious for causing more problems than they fix. And since DJI no longer supports the P3 Standard, if it bricks.....well......it will make a good boat anchor.

Have you been able to link the R/C and bird successfully ?
