Please let me know if the factory lens protector is actually removable. I tried to gently unscrew it but that baby is on tight, but maybe it’s not removable. So, before I try any harder I could use someone’s words of wisdom. Thank you.

Ours was stiff to begin with. Using a piece of material added extra grip to gently but firmly get it loose. It hasn’t been a problem since the first time - and we use a ND/PL filter for every flight.

Thanks for your reply African Wildlife. Man, I bet you never run out of subject views!

No. But your country is amazing and you’re well positioned in Nebraska with Wyoming and Colorado as neighbours - plus Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and California further to the west. I assume you’ve flown in the Black Mountains?

Well, I’ve flown over the Rockies in Montana once but have only a few hours on my drone. Lots of potential and I’m trying to develop a business I can retire with. Full time RN now with kids and grandchildren, so life is already pretty full. Drones provide me with two of my favorite things: flying and photography.

Unless you’ve previously run your own business, I’d suggest to fly for pleasure. As many threads on this forum have indicated, it’s not as easy as some seem to believe to make significant money without genuine business know-how. A lot of time and effort is required on the marketing side. Finding a specialised area is essential, plus having professional-quality photography/cinematography skills and professional editing skills.

When filming natural landscapes, restrict your flying to the golden hours immediately after sunrise and just before sunset. You’ll get the best possible light during these times - and therefore footage (subject to composition, exposure, etc). That said, the light during mid-winter can be beautiful outside these restrictions when the sun is at its lowest.

The natural landscapes in your part of the US are the best in the world. The scope, range, or variety is simply unparalleled: mountain ranges, deserts or arid areas, valleys, big trees, oldest trees, coastline, etc etc. And all within a relatively condensed geographical area.

Thanks for the input. I did have a profitable video business for about 10years (ending about 2011) until I was going to need upgraded cameras (was using Canon GL-2, XL1S and done others). Since I was a DON at a nursing facility near me, I was also unable to devote the attention needed for two careers. Since then, I am in a much less demanding field of nursing and able to afford the upgraded equipment satisfying my desire to fly and take beautiful pictures and videos. Yes, I am doing it mainly for pleasure but have some ideas that I would like to capitalize on. I’ve taken the FAA 107 Course at our local community college and just need to take the exam, so I’ll be able to sell my work. And yes, running your own business is VERY demanding, and I appreciate your words of encouragement to instead fly for pleasure. So far, so good.

So you have the experience and now good maturity to really go for it. You probably may not need the inspiration - and there are many sources of very good cinematography - but I’ve recently watched “Outlander”. As well as being an excellent TV series, the cinematography in Season 1 especially was exemplary. So many outdoor scenes were framed beautifully and shot early or late in the day. I was pleasantly impressed. Whereas the Scottish highlands are undoubtedly scenic, your country is unparalleled. All the best in what you do.
