as title really. Is this the general consensus or are after market batteries ok?

I have always heard to only use DJI batteries. I guess if you trust your $500 drone to a generic battery at 400', that is ok. I plan to only use DJI so I can't blame myself if the Phantom drops from the sky due to a bad battery.

There has been some issues reported with non DJI batteries not functioning due to DJI's software blocking them. I personally wouldn't risk it anyway; There's too much at stake if a clone battery fails.

Ok thanks guys.

Yeah I agree not worth risking it. Shane they charge so much for batteries.

I bought some extra batteries from Toby Deals I meticulously checked the pictures to make sure they were genuine. Received them and they are, no problems whatsoever. They are Hong Kong based and will only ship to UK but saved me £40-50 per battery.

£87 is that a decent price?

Unfortunately can only buy in pounds from the DJI store, where it's £124 ~ $156.

The general consensus is that some aftermarket batteries technically work. They aren't well/widely tested though, so it's unknown how they will perform/fail over time. Furthermore, using 3rd party batteries will void your warranty if you crash and/or damage your Phantom. For the small savings you're gaining up front, it could turn out to cost you much more than you expected to spend.

I am so fed up with reading the crap about only using Genuine articles ......

I buy what I find ... and I will never pay DJI hyped up price ... I am lucky that I have a seller in Ireland who supplies what I believe MAY be genuine - but work just as good as the battery supplied with the model .... price is £70 + shipping. Significant discount compared to UK DJI price !

Has anyone actually used an aftermarket battery? And has anyone actually had a bad experience with one?

There are plenty of bad experiences posted on this site. Just need to search a bit.

But how many are actually battery faults due to non-genuine or just faults that could happen to even DJI and just blamed on non-genuine ?

This is the problem. With greatest respect this Multi Rotor world is full of newcomers to the world of RC and LiPo's etc. People who buy in because its easy to fly ... produces great video .... etc etc ... unlike having to really learn to fly other models ...

This then means that a lot of faults / errors / crashes / fly-aways etc are blamed on the 'tools' rather than the human on the sticks.

I apologise if some are offended by my post here ... but that is my honest opinion after over 50 yrs in this hobby.
