Here is a short piece from this afternoon after getting the Spektrum DX8 installed. The radio feels really nice. The telemetry, which I installed was good too. I would like to buy the altimeter to see how high flights actually are.

I never felt I had good control, so I kept it short, remote and near the ground.

What could I have done wrong.

I calibrated everything, followed some tutorials on Youtube and got an spm file from RC Groups.

The Phantom would not hover comfortably.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Darren

Did you take time to double/triple check your mode selection was setup correctly with the end point adjustment on the DX8? I know mine was a bit fiddly when I installed the Futaba T8 on mine. Was thinking that maybe it was in manual flight mode and not GPs or ATT ?

The other thing is rates, there is most likely a different default rate on the DX8 to the DJI TX. Just something to get used to?

I don't know what people are talking about regarding the gain settings or the default rate.

Can you b e more specific?

Here is my last flight today. With the brushless gimbal referred to in the video link info

I think it's pretty impressive.

Thanks

The gimbal looks like its doing fairly well, that reflection is something else lol. Im trying to figure out how it can do that as its almost like a rear-view mirror. Could be handy for FPV if you could deliberately do that but I think that was by accident. Any chance you could post some close up pics of the filter as I wonder how it could possibly do that because it is very odd. Also with any filters like this or even the gopro lens cap which just slip on over the naked camera lens, be very carefull not to force twist it too much especially if its on a bit tight, this may break the bond on the gopro lens and allow it to rotate freely where it will lose focus.

Quite a few people have deliberately loosened the gopro lenses in order to have some focus control for near objects but by if you force the rotation its likely it may also break something inside. Doing it deliberatly you also need to apply heat to weaken the adhesives bond but forcing it to rotate could possibly break the lens or mount.

Rates and gains aren't easily explained in a few lines but here's the first of many youtube videos I found when I searched. It shows you what rates are, this could be affecting your mode select too.

your mode selection setup is shown here

Go to 2:00 for the mode selection part

I have a Spektrum 8 for the Phantom. What changes did you make to finally "dial in" good behavior?

I followed this fellow's tutorial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9NbjYtSeBE

and I installed this SPM file.

It 'sdabout half way down the first message/

After doing the compass dance, and the advanced calibration, I got great results, which you can see in this video.

Hope this all helps.

It's a better solution than the DJI provided radio, which is not up to snuff in my opinion.
