Newbie needs help

After ordering a used dj1 phantom 3 pro I started researching what I needed to do to be able to legally fly. This got quite confusing very quickly. Some say that I don't need anything now and other sites say I need to take any exam. Can anybody clear this up for me please? It seems the more I research the more confused I get lol

If you are flying your Phantom for recreational purposes, like most of us, you don't have to do anything except follow the FAA rules (don't fly over people, sports stadiums, under 400 feet, etc.). The exams are related to those who use their drones for commercial purposes, that is, to make money with their aerial photography.

It never hurts to get certified. I'm strictly recreational but plan to go for mine just the same.

That's another question. Can I fly over property that is not private property? Could I fly over my neighborhood rd?
