Hey Guys;

I just ordered a P4P Bundle for a mapping gig. I'm a strong purporter of legacy firmware and software. I find DJI often releases both too soon. That said, does anyone have a favorite, rock-solid FW version they prefer?

I have an Inspire 1 and a Mavic Pro, both running legacy FW and software. Both rock-solid reliable. I'd like to continue that record with my Phantom.

Thanx!

Welcome to Phantom Pilots and the Phantom family! I always update to the latest on all my drones after waiting a few days to make sure there are no bugs. I have the Inspire 1 Pro, P4P, Mavic Pro, Mavic Air and Spark, haven't had any issues... knock on wood.

Thanx for the reply and the welcome!

I had terrible video feed issues with my Inspire 1, as did a lot of Inspire 1 owners. The fix seems to be rolling back the FW to 1.08.xx. I documented the entire issue and repair process.

I wait a bit to see how stable the firmware is but I always end up updating. If you adopt the "I'll never update attitude" and you had a Spark you would be grounded after Sept 1st of last year.....until you updated. You will also be missing out on new features that DJI trickles down from newer quads like panoramic and sphere shots you can now get with the Mavic Pro which came out on the newer Spark. These are actually pretty cool.

I actually use legacy firmware and software so I DON'T get grounded. The secret is to find the software version "pre-DJI *forced* login," and go back one version from that. This is why I use legacy versions of the Go app AND the Go 4 app. I will never have to login to DJI ever again. Ever. And that is important, because a lot of my work is conducted out on location far away from Internet and cell service.

Could you imagine being out on location, billing out @ $500/hour with production costs around $10,000/hour, just to tell the director, "Oh sorry...we have to stop production so I can get within cell range to set up a hot spot so I can gain Internet access so I can login to DJI for the privilege of using their products." That would NOT fly, my friend (pun intended). I would never work in film ever again. I like working on film sets. So I use legacy software and firmware versions that insure I will never, ever, ever have to login to DJI ever again. I have the features and want and my birds are rock-solid reliable because nothing ever changes.

This has worked perfectly with my Inspire 1, and also works well with my Mavic Pro (which I use for remote real estate and mapping). It will be only a matter of time before I figure out which P4P firmware is the magic key. I'm already using legacy Go 4 app, so I'm covered there.

When it comes to DJI, my profound mantra is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If you do this for a living, you'd be wise to do the same. Or you'll end up frustrated like this poor fellow!

I hear you. It's why I fire up my quads about a day before a shoot and do any updates. You only have to log in once to app unless you clear data on the app or delete and reinstall. It works for me. I'd rather be flying on the latest and greatest stable firmware.

With all due respect, assuming that the "latest/greatest" firmware with ANY device is stable is a VERY erroneous assumption. Multiply that times five with DJI.

Here's a video of some poor slob who had logged into DJI that morning, but found himself STUCK out in the field. This will never happen to me. The FW and software versions I use are stable, and thanx to never updating, that will never, ever change.

Enjoy:

(make sure there are no children around).

That dude was upset :) like I said, you prepare before hand and you'll never have to deal with that. I've been in computer building and repair for a while now. Updates are a way of life and in most cases absolutely necessary. We'll just agree to disagree on this.

I saw somewhere that the login has 6 month validity so could be an issue at some point when operating without internet.

Not sure how true / if still the case today.

All you have to do is get stuck in the field *one time* after logging in that morning, and you'll change your mind. It's not a matter of "if" you get locked out. It's a matter of "when."

We can agree to disagree.
