Anybody in RI able to help me update my P3-P's firmware? I'm rapidly loosing my mind and need someone to update it with/for me. Advice has not worked......Embarassed to admit that I'm too technologically impaired (downloading, zipping/unzipping zip files etc).
I have been able to manage my P3-s ok but the professional is another story.
HELP....please[emoji20]

If you're not able to find anyone to help, you should be able to do it yourself if you follow my instructions here.

I'm curious. Why does it sound like you have an urgent need to update your FW? Are you trying to solve some issue? Maybe we can help with that first?

BTW - no need to be embarassed. :)

Thank you Oso and msinger:
I tried to update the firmware because I just purchased it from DJI and the app told me it needs updating. Only because it was new to me and I had never flown it did I reluctantly try the update.
I have a P3-s whose firmware is out of date but it flies just fine so I have not updated it knowing of potential issues with updated firmware. If it isn't broken don't fix it. Also, I don't trust the DJI Go app (at least with my P3-s). It has consistently given a false reading that my compass needs calibration even though its just fine and when I use litchi it says the compass is calibrated and I have no issues flying.

Here is the current status of my attempts to update the firmware:

I believe the AC might be updated ok but not confident.
At one point I attempted to check if the update was succesful by connecting the AC to my PC via the USB cord at which time the AC began beeping in the same way it does when it is updating firmware. I have no idea what it may have been extracting from the computer (maybe nothing?. I don't know). A good example of my technology limitations.
I turned off the AC, disconnected it from the PC and reinserted the micro sd card with the firmware on it. The AC appeared to begin downloading (started beeping) but then stopped. I repeated this a few times.....same thing.
I brought it to a friend for help. He was able to read the status of the update from the sd card which read that multiple attempts had been made to update currently installed and up to date firmware which makes me think all is fine but I just don't know.
The controller is a WHOLE other issue. When I tried to update it the red led came on as anticipated but it never shut off. I believe after a minute or so it is supposed to turn blue and then green when the update is complete. The light never turned blue....stayed solid red. After 5-10 minutes I turned the controller off, removed and reinserted the sd card and turned the controller back on. Same thing ......led stays red all the time.
When I turn on the AC with the controller powered up I think they link up ok, kinda sorta. The AC's status lights blink green after warm up and the camera light starts out red then changes to green.
The controller's solid red LED blinks rapidly between red and green (maybe yellow too.....can't tell for sure). I'm able to start the AC's motors and operate the gimbal ok. The DJI Go app does NOT connect.
Thats where things stand. Way too much information here but basically comes down to I don't know what the f#@% I'm doing. This is way too expensive a piece of equipment to be screwing up.
There is a drone store around here that might be able to help. However, I'd rather pay one of my utility bills with the $100 it will cost.

How did you attempt to update the firmware on the remote controller?

I found a drone store locally (a DJI repair center which I didn't know existed...cool).
I brougt it there where they did the update.
They confirmed that the AC had updated just fine.
They updated the controller through the app. Very simple!
The tech guy asked if I had watched any YouTube videos. I had....numerous of them as well as read bunches of articles. Nowhere had I seen updating the controller via the app. Everything I saw/read indicated using the SD card with the bin file on it.
Anyway, problem has been solved.
Unrelated to this is a discussion with the guy about problems people have had with really low altitude and range limits with this and other firmware updates. He said these can be resolved by signing out of and back into the Go app.
I want to thank everyone who reached out to me here.

Great news that it's okay now. Sounds like they updated your RC using the correct step by step process that @msinger gave you Monday morning in post #2 above.

Tim, we haven't used the SD card method to update the AC since about Q3 of 2015. That tip is included on a list of tips that I often share with new P3A and P3P owners, so perhaps the list also includes something else you may not have discovered yet. If you are interested, click here to check it out.

Click here for some background info related to the distance limits with the latest FW.

I want to thank everyone who reached out to me here.
We are happy to be able to help. Cheers!

Hi Tim, if you ever need help again, let me know. I live close to Mattapoisett in Southern MA so not too far from you.. I have done countless FW upgrades and downgrades, plus modding the RC for a DBS antenna etc.. pretty familiar with all the 3rd party apps also - Litchi etc..
Happy flying!
