I am running Windows 8. My 4K video is set to record .mov and I realize I can change it to .mp4. Currently on .mov my VLC and QuickTime have trouble playing it. However Windows Media Player works fine. The reason I like VLC I can get a snapshot photo from the video nearly twice the size as just a screen capture.
What do you recommend?

vlc should handle anything thrown at it.

it not quicktime is for mov

I cant play mov or mp4 at any fps...... I can play a max of 30fps with windows media player in either format....I think its just my machine

odd.

VLC I have found quite good except for when I got the P2V+ v3, its like looking through chicken wire a lot of the time.
quicktime has been fine, maybe the frame rate sets up some sort of interference pattern. (on mine)

Unless you have a machine with a processor in last two gens you will find playback unfeasible. Having at least a mid-level discrete graphics card is a huge plus.
