Mechanical Shutter does not work in Auto mode - Is this normal?

I'm unable to get usable photos out of my P4P camera with Mechanical Shutter when the camera Auto mode is also engaged.

The images come out grossly over-exposed (white out / burn out).

I'm able to get normal photos when I put the camera in Auto mode with the Mechanical Shutter turned off. With some patience, I can also pull off usable shots with Mechanical Shutter on if I use Manual mode and carefully adjust Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO before each shot (unless it's high noon and solar illumination is the same in every direction).

I'm almost ready to ship the drone back to DJI for repair, but I'm worried that this might actually be "normal" behaviour - at least one user reports receiving the drone back unrepaired: Mechanical shutter problem, Phantom 4 Pro v2

Has anybody here had this issue AND had it fixed? Is this "normal"? Should I send it in? What "magic words" can I write in the ticket so it'll actually get fixed?

I use my p4p in auto all the time without issue. Sometimes the very first shot is over exposed but that’s it.

I usually pick a white balance though, not leaving it auto.
