So, if flying at distance and video feed begins to break up, will the map info continue to provide ac location if the controller is still in touch with the ac.

If you mean the 2.4GHz feed breaks up or fails - then I would suggest that this breaks also the Telemetry data flow and the map etc. will also stop.
