Map Caching?

Ok I need some clarification on this map caching setting? Should this be toggled on all the time or just while I'm on WiFi? Does this cache maps for a particular area when I'm not on WiFi? Kind of confusing to how this actually works and how to use it effectively. Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you do not have cell service, and wifi only, when you are connected via wifi, and browse a map area, the Go app will store this map area in the cache for a period of time. No reason not to leave it on all the time.
