So, for the first time, earlier today I panicked. I was flying the 3 Standard and it was about 2,000 feet away and I'd lost sight of it over downtown Hannibal, Missouri. I looked at the screen and I had signal, then I didn't. It said" aircraft disconnected" or something of that nature. Naturally I started freaking out because the screen was black. I calmly put down the remote and clicked my case shut, picked it up and started heading toward the car to drive where I last knew it was. As I approached the car, I heard the drone and looked up and there it was. A few seconds later it came back on the screen and it was in RTH mode. Terrified briefly for many reasons but I landed it and all is well. This is the first time I've gone out of range and I thought I would have a picture if RTH was activated. When I got home and looked at the video, it appears as though the drone just stopped, hovered for a few seconds and then came back to me. Thank God! Thoughts? Comments?

That is the correct behaviour for the Phantom. Provided it records the home point (you need to check this as you take off), it will come home. Of course, you need to ensure the RTH altitude is high enough to pass above any potential obstacle.

"I would have a picture if RTH was activated."

A picture of what?
I'm confused, what would should you see if lost signal?

I say you still had control, did the remote status change from green to red?

"put down the remote and clicked my case shut"
This is probably when the Phantom lost the signal from the remote and RTH activated, otherwise it would have just been hovering if you left the sticks centered.

You need to understand RTH and test before you can trust it.

Check out these links.
Best Method to RTH?
Lost signal (but not really)
Lesson learned from crash by RTH because flying with a low battery

After you burn your brain cells, caffeine helps, I will give you a test.  ;)

There is tons of wifi in the area. I have flown there before and have lost signals before i added amps to my controller. Raising the drone higher also helps. There is a internet company there that has crappy wifi equipment on building selling wifi service that can swamp ur drones ears. Running the amps on controller can help tell drone what ti do but not always looks like u have control
