FYI, if you haven't bought a backpack for the Mavic yet, this one works great, and it's a great price. The zippers on this backpack work like they're motorized, they work so silky smooth.
 
Airlines vary... that could fly on Alaska Airlines, Frontier would allow it as well. Those are the two I fly most often so I know them but it's best to go to the website and check to make certain.

That's the total width of the backpack in a slack state. You can easily squeeze the bag a little bit to fit into the overhead bins.
