Latas - ping for manned aircraft

Do you think they will require UAV's before private owned aircraft? That would seem... out of sorts... but given the knucleheads that fly these days maybe it would be better??!

I think it really depends on the publics' use of UAV's. If violations occur such as airspace/near miss with aircraft it might require FAA action in the future.

As an ATP, I'm on both sides of the fence here. I fly aircraft for a living, and fly my Phantom for fun. As long as they remain separate and "share the airspace", there will be no unnecessary regulations.

But after dealing with the FAA for over 30 years, I've found that anything is possible with them. The downside to adding ADS-B and Mode C to a UAV would be the added weight and battery requirements. The drone would become bigger and heavier. With modern technology today, it may be minimal increases in weight.

We'll see. As you said, the knuckleheads will shape the future of the drone industry.

All I can really add is Fly Safe and Share the Sky.[emoji3]
