You may want to increase your altitude a bit and see what that does.

And, @Pete-bo, there is definitely something wrong with that DBS, or the install. If it were me, I think I'd send it back (if you can) and swap it for a working model. Just a suggestion.

I consistently get 2-3 miles at 400' (+) with video drop out at max range, just before RTH initiates with my DBS. But, altitude is key here. Higher is better for me.
