There are 'payload' type altimeters available for post-flight data review such as this:

Many other types too to be found by a google search.

How does this work how is it attached to quad

you open the phantom, take top off. then just attach this device between the GPS and NAZA box.

Full disclosure. I do not own nor have I ever used one. It was an example of what's available.

The Altimiter I linked-to does not tie into your GPS, as mentioned, others do.

It gives you altitude and temperature against flight time.
No geographic coordinates.

It is powered by the Rx (empty channel or port?).

To use:
Place sensor module in a/c, fly, return, connect to PC, review data.
