How best to update firmware for P3A?

Can someone tell me the best way to update a Phantom 3 Advanced? Is it called firmware? A friend at work suggested we can go to a particular web page with our PC and then plug the drone into the PC and it will do everything else automatically. But in my manual I believe it says to update the controller's firmware before updating the drone's. Can anyone guide me to the best approach to this?
