My name is Manny, I'm a Geology PhD student at the University of Texas at Arlington just getting into drones. This is my first time being on a forum, so my apologies if I do it wrong, lol. It's good to meet everyone.

I've been looking into doing research involving remote sensing on UAV platforms. I just purchased an S1000+ and our department wants to take up a particle counting device and take air quality samples at different heights above a landfill and a highway overpass.

I only have the air frame and am researching what parts I would need for this type of mission. I am on a budget, so I would like to get some cheaper parts, show the department how these types of analyses would benefit us, and hopefully get them to invest in some more professional equipment.

I was thinking about using an A2 flight controller and a Futaba 14SGH, but I'm unsure about the battery and if there are any other parts I would need. Do I need the lightbridge to transmit a signal to the 14SGH? What kind of battery would I need to carry an appr. 8 lbs payload and stay in flight long enough to collect samples for a 400 ft column of air? Also I need altitude data to match with the measurements from the instrument, and I would need to be able to see it in real time to see what altitude I'm sampling from.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
