I don't have a case yet so just cruising around with the P3 in the trunk or the passenger seat, is it necessary to use the gimbal lock?

It takes 5 seconds to slide it on. I always do it. And on my checklist before flight is an item "take off gimbal lock" ;-)

It's a great idea to always use it when traveling. The fragile gimbal really shouldn't be freely bouncing around.

Not unless something goes wrong in which is would have helped. :)

Biggest is that you drop the P3 while taking it out of the truck.

I'm also checking every day for a good aftermarket lock. I have one for my P2 that is wonderful. It covers the lens also, which would be good for the P3. There is one currently on ebay but I'm not sure about the design (it's also $25 which is a little steep).
