I got to see the first untethered drone at the Daytona 500 today, (DJI inspire 2) and the footage was really amazing. The sideways car chases were definitely a new perspective from the traditional cameras.

Yeah, they showed it hovering during the broadcast. Mike Joy mentioned it required special permission so don’t try this at home (or similar).

During the filming of ‘Days Of Thunder’ there, a nitro Heli was used. I had just started flying helis then and thought what a great ‘gig’.

Loved seeing this Inspire 2 making a difference in the Nascar footage. I think we'll only be seeing more and more of these in the coming years. Pilot Bill Scott did a great job.

A little late to the convo here, but they had it during the xfinity race the day before too. The main problem on that broadcast was it appeared they used 720p downlink video. Cool shots, other than the video quality and the landing gear in the shot when braking. The 500 was definately better, except for the landing gear thing again.
