Editing film clips on computer

I have taken some film clips with my P3S and downloaded them to my iMac. Full screen previews on the Mac seem to have very good resolution. When I clip and save the results using iMovie, the full screen resolution looks poor. I don't know why the resolution is decreasing.

Do I need to use a different program (can be OS10 or Win 7), or do I need to use DJI's Go App for editing?

I'm a Microsoft guy and don't know much about Mac video editing.
But I know that some people use Final Cut Pro X with a lot of success. It looks like a pretty simple to use application comparing to Adobe Premiere Pro that I use on a PC.

But for more advanced editing you definitely need an Adobe Premiere Pro.

iMovie will change the resolution at the end when you are saving the file. The maximum resolution it supports is 1080. I use it, but make sure that all the options when I save are set to maximum or best quality and I'm pretty happy with the results.

QuickTime does simple editing of a single clip and allows various resolutions for the finished clip.

You can also cut and paste from another QuickTime clip to make a combination movie..
