Hi, all fellow Phantom pilots, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with phantoms in the manual mode which is enabled by the Phantom 2's corresponding assistant software. I have actually since sold on the p2 I did have, but was wondering if I did happen to buy another one in the future, and put it into manual mode, what speeds could I possibly achieve in that mode? Before I sold it, I did put into manual mode out of curiosity and managed to master flying in smaller spaces, but since my space is very limited, I could not fly it at any significant speeds. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel M

I actually flew it in manual mode several times, but never crashed! I guess my experience flying helicopters helped!:)

In manual mode (third position down enabled by the assistant software), there's no horizontal balance. It's virtually impossible to control the drone for more than a second or two. It's handy if you're trying to do tricks like barrel rolls or flips, because they can't be done otherwise. The trick is to flip it into manual mode for a second, then flip it back. It's a good idea to be very high when one tries manual mode.

I don't think there is a speed advantage except in theory because of its difficulty to control. However, there's a tremendous speed advantage in the non-GPS mode. I've done 65 mph in the non-GPS mode (middle position), flying with the wind (wind was about 15 mph). Lots of P2 pilots have flown even faster than that.

Non-GPS mode is also very difficult, but at least it has horizontal balance. It definitely takes practice.

Here is an example of some flying with the original Phantom - some of it is in manual mode. The P2 can do everything that the original Phantom could do.

Hi, @Mark The Droner, thanks for the video! It was kind of cool to watch. That guy is a better pilot than I am😉
