I have been seeing people desend super fast on the phantom 2. On my vision plus it's really slow coming down. Is that because of the gimble it is trying to be safe? Is there a way for it to desend faster?
I'd recommend you do not descend any faster than 2 ft/sec -- which is probably about half throttle down. If you descend too quickly, you could get into VRS and your Phantom might come crashing down.
There is no way to change the descent speed -- other than rolling back to firmware version 1.x or 2.x.
Check out this video for more information about VRS:
Unless you fly using very old firmware the Phantom can only descend at 2 metres/sec. Way back it was 6 m/sec.
It should be safe to come down at the full 2 m/s without worries.
If you decide to come down at full speed, just be sure to watch for any wobble and/or a different pitch (sound) from the propellers. Both are a sign of VRS.
Full speed descent is OK if you keep it moving laterally at the same time.
If there is some wind it amounts to the same thing - but beware moving with the wind so your air speed is almost zero.
