Is yours a Phantom 3 Standard, Advance or Professional? They connect differently.

Assuming it's a P3 Standard, there is a radio signal for control of the AC. Video travels from the AC back to the controller via Wi-Fi. Your portable device connects to the controller via wi-fi.

The Advance and the Professional use a technology called Lightbridge which combines the radio and video into the same signal. It's more robust.

Thanks mate, but I know how to connect the drone to the controller. What I was asking is what type of signal does the drone use to link with the control unit. I know it wifi's from the controller the the IOS or mobile phone, but what type of signal does it use from the Phantom back to the controller? Thanks.

Found out mate thanks, I didn’t realise wifi signal carried so far. I thought it was only a very short range thing like in your house. Thank you.

Just add ,,,you can be in the middle of nowhere and you wifi drone will work sweet because it has wifi module inside which communicates with remote hence it makes its own,,,don't need no cell towers etc to find a signal,it's already on board,,,,anyway hope you enjoy cause it is great Hobbie or addiction or lifestyle

Mate, I’m having a ball. I have two Phantom 3 Standards as I broke the camera off the first one. It was cheaper to buy another Phantom new than it was just for a camera and gimbal. I was than able to get another camera second hand for free and repaired my first one. My brother in law was at my place a last week and I was showing him what they can do. He went out and bought one the following day, lol. Thanks for your help. Beautiful day here in Australia today, so, flying again. Thanks.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices. They can transmit and receive radio waves, and they can convert 1s and 0s into radio waves and convert the radio waves back into 1s and 0s.

But WiFi radios have a few notable differences from other radios:
1) They transmit at frequencies of 2.4 GHz or 5GHz.
2) This frequency is considerably higher than the frequencies used for cell phones, walkie-talkies and televisions.
3) The higher frequency allows the signal to carry more data.

Thanks mate, that’s interesting. I’m learning more everyday, lol. [emoji106]
