Aircraft Disconnected Mid-Flight

Someone please help me.
I was flying, everything was normal, until the aircraft disconnected from being too far away.
From previous flying experiences, I expected the aircraft to return using the return to home function, but it never came back.
Now, I don't know where the drone is and I can't prove to DJI that I damaged the drone, which is probably damaged due to the fall.
What would I need to do in this situation?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This can be at least partially figured out per the above link. Assuming that you still had downlink.
