A wee test with Icarus app.

Decided to test, with the limited equipment that I have, the "Icarus for Phantom 3S" program I bought (Android) for use in countries restricted to C.E. on 2.4GHz.
With A/C in one room and the RC in another as far apart as my house would allow, I first set them both with the Icarus app to 27dbi. (same as FFC)
I walked out of the house a fair way and noted where I was standing and facing. I connected to the Phantom Wifi.
Using the free KAIBITS Network Signal Info app (Android) on my phone I took a screen snapshot. Screenshot 27dbi.
Then, using the Icarus App I decreased the A/C and RC Tx to 17dbi
I went outside again and making sure I was standing in the same spot as before and facing the same way I took Screenshot 17dbi.
I think it shows clearly that contrary to some posters who say it is only the Icarus app saying it is being increased and that you need "very specialised equipment" to show any improvement at all, the increase in power is evident.
I think it is £4.99 well spent for anyone in CE countries..

Repeated this test as I was using the wrong nomenclature. I said dbi when it should have been dBm. Also I had CE as being 17dBm when it should have been 20dBm.
So once again 27dBm (FCC = 500mW) and 20dBm (CE = 100mW) same conditions.
See dBm - Wikipedia

Best way for us amateur engineers to actually see the increased power is to use something like the Immersion RC watt meter which I will do once I use Icarus.

I just took my p3s with arg tek almost 2900 ft, almost twice as far at 20dbi

I really don't understand completely, is a smaller # stronger ? (I do realize they're negative #s) so would make sense

....almost twice as far as what? This thread is about Icarus.

Icarus increases the db of the signal ... so his post is ok ..
