A mate got a P3A and decided to do his first ever long distance test, the result.

We gave him a round of applause when he finally landed it

He did, but a reinstall of Litchi changed the signal lost to hover instead of RTH. Lesson learnt and trousers changed

If setting was set to hover on signal loss, turning RC off would have no effect.

This happened to me too where I lost video and telemetry. It only returned due to low battery. On examination of flight logs on tablet and AC, it seems RC lost signal from AC, but AC still had signal, thus no RTH and I actually had control but didn't know it.
Solution: raise altitude blindly, navigate back to yourself blindly if you are sure of your orientation, or select RTH on the RC. My opinion is that the app should send an RTH if inbound signal loss is more than 30 seconds just in case the AC still is getting a signal.

Nice hover shot. My 4 minute hover was boring, looking down at an angle at some trees swaying to the breeze at the edge of the river, but not enough river and people to be interesting.
