2.7K vs 1080p, bitrate

For the first time since I got my P3 Standard half a year ago I started thinking about whether or not 2.7K is the best choice to record in. The reason is obvious. 2704x1520 equals to double the amount of pixels than 1920x1080 does, but the bitrate is not double (40mbps vs 25mbps). The bitrate is in fact 20% lower than it should be (50mbps is double to 25), and should lead to worse quality - artifacts in the video. Something I have experienced on several occasions particularly with detailed objects moving relatively fast close to the camera.

Not to mention that 30p is stored at the same bitrate as 24p but again, would need 20% more bitrate to get the same data stored / frame as the 24p.

Switching from 1520p30 (that's 2,7K) to 1080p24 (or 25) should provide massive amounts of preserved detail. Living in Europe I already record in 25p.

So, what's the verdict? I have not yet tried out 1080p but I will in a couple of hours.
What's your thoughts about this? Have you tried them out both? Are you looking forward to the Phantom 5 as much as I do?

While 2.7K and 4K have the capability to provide amazing picture clarity, depth, and color reproduction, it's all about how it's implemented.

Early adopters, such as those in this community, always suffer from less than ideal performance due to rushed implementations.

Bitrate is paramount in motion picture reproduction and I would without hesitation choose the higher bitrate 1080p over 2.7K. If it was a choice between a high bitrate 480p stream or a lower, but acceptable, bitrate 720p or 1080p stream, I would say go with the higher resolution. But since most panels still being used today are 1080p anyway, it just makes sense. To me anyway!

I say this owning a 65" LG4K display with a GoPro hero 4. It's disappointing to think about how often I choose the much higher bitrate 1080p setting over the 2.7 or 4K setting.
