I'm not 100% positive about the P3S but to the best of my knowledge none of the Phantoms (P2, P3, and P4) require a working camera/gimbal board to be flightworthy. As long as the RC and AC are properly linked flight controls are normal and unaffected by camera/gimbal board issues. Personally I've flown both a P2V+ and a P3P with non functioning gimbal boards and they both flew normally.

You can take the gimbal off and the p3 will still fly.
