What is the purpose of calibrating batteries ? Fairly new to drones and I do not understand this part.

I have flown over 60 flights and never had any issues with my batteries at all.

If this is something that is neccessary I will comply but I would like to know the reason why.

because the firmware in the battery allows the software to communicate with it - there may be improvements made to this as DJI develop the software

If it was necessary, DJI would mention it in your manual .. and they don't.
It's something from the old days of Lipo batteries, that's not really relevant with DJI's intelligent batteries.

I assume it's to do with the intelligent features like voltage and error reporting etc rather than for conditioning purposes.

Do we calibrate these batteries? No

We only ensure that when we plug in the batteries, they are fully charged so that batteries can map the discharging curves correctly.
