Are the Phantom's batteries really so dangerous and unpredictable? Do you charge/store them in a protective box or bag? Does anyone keep them in his Case or backpack?

Dangerous, unpredictable?
LiPos must respected but not feared.
I have used them since '06 with no incidents.
I charge mine while watching them and store them in ammo cans in garage.

Yeah, you probably won't have any catastrophic fires that burn your house to the ground. Odds are in your favor.

LiPo Bags for charging and storage. I saw a post of a person who's Phantom batteries went up in flames, but his photos showed that he stored them in a back pack, not too smart.

Watch the right side as a lipo that was not being charged, it is just sitting there... well you see the results. The only thing that makes me more nervous about Phantom batteries than other LiPo batteries is that there's a whole lot of little firmware management issues going on behind the scenes, such as self-discharge as well as charge-state monitoring. So, it's not like the battery is just a standalone sitting on the shelf (dangerous enough, apparently), but it is also self-managing its charge state, and we've all seen enough DJI firmware glitches that maybe we ought to be just a little worried about these Phantom "intelligent" LiPos.

Don't cheap out on bags. Use quality bags or better yet just stick to a steel box.
