Wandering quad

Ive noticed that when the quad is using the VPS on my local muddy field that it wanders around a fair bit, in this video its about 4ft up,
But it seems fine over grass, so is VPS surface dependant.

Yes VPS sees the ground patter to keep horizontal motions steady. If it sees a ground with no pattern or wide patterns, it would wander more.

I would venture to say, if we saw a straight down image of this muddy field in the shade, that the muddy ground has very little "pattern" for the VPS to lock onto.
 
...and the ultrasonic sensor signal would be totally absorbed by the mud too.
You mean like a Lowrance fishfinder's sonar gets "absorbed" by the mud?
