I am interested in knowing the strongest transmitter/receiver set up for the Phantom.

Also, what is the best way (and where) to mount the receiver to get the cleanest signal.

TS353 400mw is a very cheap and well built transmitter, you can go above 2km with it.

FPV setup, you can get 1km+ range with this setup, its a nice start to FPV.
And if you use a directional antenna on the receiver you could go above 2km.

How far do you want to fly, and do you want to fly out front or all around you?

I don't know really how far out, but I can tell you that I had it out across a lake today at around 300m and the crappy video signal had me flipping out trying to figure out my heading. My iOSD saved my butt. I want to venture further from the nest as I get more stick time. I am running the R5800X receiver with stock antenna. Can I swap out this antenna and get better reception and if so, which one?

BTW, I am completely new to the RC world but work as a professional cameraman. Please forgive me for starting threads that might have my issues already discussed. I am not aware of all the options and what they are called, so searching is a bit confusing.

I went out to 1.5 miles with a 250mW FatShark video tx.

Most of distance will be in the receiving antenna.

Just curious about your question about getting the "cleanest signal". Are you concerned about a god signal because you want the best possible image for FPV flying, or are you intending to record the signal for distribution later? The transmitted signal will almost always be inferior to the recorded image you would get from a GoPro or similar camera with on-board recording capability.

I'm fairly new to this myself. I have the immersion 600 mW transmitter, a Fatshark circular polarized antenna hanging straight down, and a matching antenna on my reconvert on the "A" channel and a "Patch" antenna on the "B" channel. The patch antenna gets the best reception at distance, however it is pretty directional, so you have to keep it pointed in the general direction of the Phantom.

Eric,
nobody can say for sure but it would certainly be worth trying different antennas.
Just make sure you get the right connector on the antenna.
The one in your photo looks like it probably uses an RP-SMA connector.

DJI lightbridge. One of these on a phantom 2 with gimbal would be superb. not cheap though (yet!) :shock:
