Video file size recommendations

I am learning Premiere Pro and been having challenges with working on clips, the software and my 2011 Mac freeze and hang non-stop.
First of I understand that i probably
need a faster laptop but what file size /format do you recommend to shoot videos.

I believe i'm in 4K right now, not sure if it's not too heavy for my laptop and Premiere Pro.

I will use my work video mostly for realtors/MLS websites and Youtube.
The first clips i film with the default settings the P4P camera came with worked fine.

Yeah 4k is extremely demanding. I have 2013 4k iMac w 12gb of RAM and its a real struggle to edit 4k footage. When I'm shooting for fun/editing practice I shoot in 2.7k. No problems at all with that footage.

One thing you can do to make editing in PP with 4K files easier is to change the display resolution from "Full" to 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 or 1/16. I wouldn't recommend 1/8 or 1/16 as the quality really suffers, but using 1/2 or 1/4 can really help.

The other thing you can do is use 'proxy editing'.
