V+ vs GoPro hero 3

I can definitively tell you the answer is NO at this time. Because the Vision is using wifi to talk to the device, you have actual control as described previously (change settings, start/stop). When you have a gimbal/gopro you can NOT have the wifi operational (because the RC operates on similar frequencies), therefore you must start/stop the gopro manually.

Hacker/Newbie/Hypothetical Question: Since I do not yet own a GoPro, I thought I throw this one out to the Internets. So with regard to the data port on the GoPro (not WiFi) - Is there no remote control capability through that port? I.E. One cannot send ANY remote control signals via USB between lets say from a PC to the GoPro? Is there no Remote Control API built into the GoPro accessible from the data port?
In a perfect world this is what I am envisioning - Phantom + Gimbal + GoPro --> Data Port --> Arduino (or some other embedded OS controller device) --> Empty channel on a Third Party Receiver --> Third Party Transmitter (FrSky Taranis) --> Switch/s on Third Party Transmitter = Turn GoPro Video Recording On/Off (or take a still photo) or something like that.

Am I the only one who is dreaming of such a setup?

P.S.: . . .and if not the GoPro, are there any other "Action Cameras" on the market with such a Data Port API?

Here's the first half of that project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpPfk4sLb3I

The second half is figuring out how to translate that wiring to connect to one or more output channels on your FrSky receiver. Should be possible (looks like all it takes is mapping to the right pins on the Rx)

In my opinion, this hack is unacceptable. For all intents and purposes, this hack turns your GoPro from a multitasker into a unitasker. There's got to be a way to do this through the USB port. I've just started reading them, but there are some interesting hacks that can be found here: http://goprouser.freeforums.org/gopro-i ... g-f23.html

EDIT: Just found this one too: http://www.benthicscience.com/beta/prod ... bus-access (looks interesting)

The one I linked for you is the only one I've ever seen that will work via the USB as you mentioned. The one you're looking at there is for using the Hero port on the back of the camera, and there's a number of options for using that to control the camera (also depends on which model of gopro you'll use). You might want to check this site out, in addition to the hardware they sell there's some great resources linked on the left that might help you in your quest: http://cam-do.com/wired.html

I don't really think it's possible to directly address the camera's controls via the USB port.

I think I might need to visit that YouTube video again, because the one I watched about an hour ago had nothing at all to do with the USB port :? All I saw was this guy who totally destroyed his GoPro by disassembling it, soldering wires to it, drilling holes in it, and trying to squeeze the **** thing back together. It was ugly! Personally, I wouldn't want to do that to a $400 GoPro; but hey that's just me. . .

USB - Hero Port - Whatever gets the job done, I don't care. . . I just don't want to have to tear the GoPro apart or drill 18 holes in its case to make it work. . .

I'll definitely be checking that out. You've got me excited with anticipation!

Noted. . . and from what I've seen so far, I would have to concur with you there. But if the job can be accomplished through this so called "Hero Port", I'm cool with that. . .

or.... you can just press record before you take off and edit your videos later with the free software ;)
