US DHS warns of possible Chinese Drone data collection

Really? Your going to believe anything this administration says, as it launches an all out trade war "for no reason' against China. What data could the DJI be stealing that is not already in the public record. If you are worried about your drone stealing data, then you need to worry about your phone, your TV and your coffee pot. All made in China. The real data criminal is FaceBook.

I couldn't agree more... Social media is the real data and privacy leak.

It’s okay to fly a UAV over a Military Base, but not over a National Park....we must be hiding our secrets in the butts of buffalo.

So let's see...the USA, Russia, China, etc. etc. ALL have satellites in orbit that can read the date of a dime on the ground from space, and we are worried about them "spying" on us through our drones?

Sure, whatever. I guess those high-tech satellites just weren't good enough. I'll be darned.

This is a real issue and concern. I work for the Federal Government and we are not allowed to purchase DJI products off the shelf for this very reason. My agency is current on a version of DJI apps and software that has been scrubbed and clean, and approved by multiple US intelligence agencies.

There are physical limitations to what satellites can do. Numerous assets are used to overcome platform limitations.

Some of your beliefs are not entirely accurate.

More politcally-motivated nonsense from a government that's only good at one thing: scaring you.

Me? I'll be waiting for my government subsidy check that covers my losses from grounding my drone. And of course I hate socialism with a passion.

You have that backwards. It's perfectly legal to fly over National Parks - just not take off or land from them, which is an NPS rule. It's generally illegal to fly over military bases since they are protected by restricted airspace.

Your drone is grounded? Why? How?

At first, I wasn't taking you seriously.

As a patriot I'm grounding my Chinese drone so that I don't provide sensitive pictures of jackrabbits to the dreaded Chinese.
Well, if you are so patriotic... You shouldn't have bought a Chinese drone in the first place. Enjoy your time with something else.
